About the Practice

What types of therapy do you offer?

We offer a range of therapeutic approaches including individual counseling, peak performance training for athletes, equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAGALA certified), neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), Ericksonian hypnotherapy, and group seminars. Each client receives a personalized treatment plan that integrates the most effective modalities for their situation.

Who is Peggy Martin and what are her qualifications?

Peggy Martin is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas with over 15 years of clinical experience. She holds certifications as a Level 1 EAGALA Equine-Assisted Psychotherapist, a Certified NLP Practitioner through the Society of NLP, and a Level 2 Ericksonian Hypnotist through the Milton H. Erickson Foundation. She specializes in peak performance coaching for athletes.

Where is your office located?

Our office is located at 1290 S. Willis Ste. 121, Abilene, TX 79605. We also offer online sessions for clients who prefer telehealth or are located outside the Abilene area.

Do you work with a team or is it just Peggy?

While Peggy Martin leads the practice, she works with a team of licensed professionals including a clinical psychologist specializing in ADHD, an anxiety and trauma specialist, and a performance psychologist. Each team member brings unique expertise, allowing us to match clients with the best fit for their needs.

Sessions & Scheduling

How long is a typical session?

Individual therapy sessions are typically 50 minutes. Initial intake sessions may run 60-75 minutes to allow time for a thorough assessment. Equine-assisted therapy sessions are usually 50-60 minutes. Group seminars and workshops vary in length depending on the format.

How do I schedule my first appointment?

You can schedule by calling us at 325-669-7141, emailing Peggy@PeggyMartinLPC.com, or using the contact form on our website. We typically start with a brief phone consultation (free of charge) to understand your needs and determine if we are a good fit before scheduling your first full session.

What are your office hours?

Our office hours are Mon-Fri 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM. We do our best to accommodate scheduling needs, including some flexibility for athletes with training schedules.

How often should I come to therapy?

Most clients start with weekly sessions. As you progress, we may adjust to biweekly or monthly sessions. For athletes preparing for competitions, we sometimes increase frequency leading up to events. The right schedule depends on your goals, and we will work together to find what works best.

Specializations

What sports do you work with for peak performance training?

Peggy has 15+ years of experience coaching athletes in cutting horse trials, rodeo, dressage, golf, tennis, track and field, and many other disciplines. The mental performance techniques we use are applicable across all sports — if you compete, we can help you perform better under pressure.

Do I need experience with horses for equine-assisted therapy?

No prior horse experience is needed. Equine-assisted psychotherapy involves ground-based activities — you do not ride the horse. The activities are designed to be accessible to anyone, regardless of their comfort level with animals. We will guide you through every step.

Is hypnotherapy safe? Will I lose control?

Ericksonian hypnotherapy is completely safe. It is a gentle, conversational process — not the stage hypnosis you see in entertainment. You remain fully aware and in control throughout the session. You cannot be made to do anything against your will. It is simply a state of focused relaxation that allows deeper therapeutic work.

Can you help with ADHD in athletes?

Yes. Our team includes James Okafor, M.Ed., ADHD-CCSP, who specializes in the intersection of sports psychology and ADHD. Many athletes with ADHD face unique challenges with focus, emotional regulation, and consistency. We help athletes build mental systems that work with their brain rather than against it.

Insurance & Payment

Do you accept insurance?

We accept most major insurance providers. We recommend calling your insurance company to verify your mental health benefits before your first session. We can provide you with the necessary information to check your coverage.

What if I do not have insurance?

Self-pay options are available. We also offer sliding scale fees based on financial need. We believe that cost should not be a barrier to getting help, and we are happy to discuss payment options during your initial consultation.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept cash, check, and all major credit and debit cards. Payment is due at the time of service unless other arrangements have been made.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Late cancellations or no-shows may be subject to a fee. We understand that life happens, and we try to be flexible when emergencies arise.

Online & Telehealth

Do you offer online therapy sessions?

Yes. We offer secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for most of our services, including individual counseling, peak performance training, NLP therapy, and Ericksonian hypnotherapy. Equine-assisted psychotherapy requires in-person attendance at our Abilene, TX facility.

Who can use telehealth services?

Telehealth is available to clients located in the state of Texas. If you are outside Texas, please contact us to discuss options. Telehealth works well for many clients, especially athletes who travel frequently for competitions.

What do I need for a telehealth session?

You need a device with a camera and microphone (computer, tablet, or smartphone), a stable internet connection, and a private space where you will not be interrupted. We use a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform and will send you a link before your session.
